The Art & Science Of Knitting

The art and science of knitting began its journey since the age of Adam and Eve. Having said that, we mean, knitting has evolved with the time, especially keeping pace with the changing needs of the people all over the world. You thus get to see a lot of needles based on the size, shape, and the base material used in the making of the needles.
Interestingly, the process of evolution continues even in the case of needles and its' applications. You thus get to see many types of differently knitted garments today bespoke to the different mood and occasions of life. Today, you can even think of a party wear that the application of these giant knitting needles has brought to you.
Types of needles:
As we said in the beginning, there are many types of needles available in the market such as the following that you use for the different types of knitting.
Straight Needle: People also know this needle as the single pointed needle. With a knob at one end, this needle is straight and tapered at the other end. Such a needle is mostly lightweight and used in pairs. These needles have an average length of 10-16 inches. The folks in the semi urban and urban areas often use these needles for knitting woollen garments, for instance. You can get different types straight needles made of the materials like wood, plastic, and metal in the market.
Circular Needle: Circular needles evolved many years later with a view to fulfilling exclusive knitting requirements. The slip stitch is an application of the circular needles. However, some people refer to the slip as a pattern of the embroidery stitch. A circular needle has two tapered ends usually with a circular bending between the two tapered points. The average length of such a needle is 4-5 inches and it is rigid that helps easy knitting especially those narrow tubular areas like the sleeve.
Double pointed Needle: A cable needle is an example of a special type of double pointed needle. However, the length of the two arms of such a needle varies based on the shape of the bending. It can be a straight needle with two tapered ends and this type of the double pointed needle is recognised as the oldest type. The average size of it can vary between 13-20 cm. The merit of this needle is that you can knit with the both ends of it. Such needles are useful for knitting round shaped items such as the socks, collars, and sleeves.
Wooden Needle: As the name suggests, it is made of wood. Carbonised bamboo needles are an example of the wooden needle. The average size of a wooden needle is 14.2 inches.
Plastic Needle: It is made of hard plastic and useful for very large stitches. Plastic needles are available in many sizes and attractive colours.
Metal Needle: You get nickel and aluminium made needles here. However, nickel made needles aren't available easily.

You should choose the types of giant knitting needles that best suit your purpose and use.
